2K Games has secured a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to direct the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently working on the anticipated third-person action-packed title known as Project Ethos.
Management Transition Follows Mixed Feedback
The new appointee takes on the role of studio head at 31st Union following the exit of former leader Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' disappointing early showing last fall.
On Wednesday, 2K president David Ismailer updated employees about this strategic move through an internal memo, which emphasized that playtesting had indicated the requirement for a more defined game identity.
Ismailer noted that the developers is now overhauling Project Ethos with a refreshed vision, aiming to address player expectations.
A Pattern of Key Recruitment
The news echoes a similar move taken by 2K Games in August, when they brought on an industry veteran from Blizzard to contribute to the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.
Below is the entire text from Ismailer's announcement:
Dear Team—
I know you all just wrapped up your town hall - I trust you’re as excited as I am with the good news. Last time I shared you all a note, I stated the following: “I believe in this crew. You all are some of the most driven and innovative developers we have had the chance to work with - and we’re eager for that partnership to endure.”
Through your commitment and versatility, especially over the past twelve months, you consistently demonstrate that.
The gamer responses from last fall’s the game playtest was revealing. It validated the promise of a roguelike shooter but indicated we still had refinements needed. It revealed the need for a sharper identity.
The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve come. You accepted the criticism to mind and reimagined the title with a refreshed direction - one that’s positioned to deliver on its ambition to our fans.
The belief in this project strengthens every day. To boost the remarkable progress you’ve made, I am thrilled to welcome Ben Brinkman as the latest Studio Head of the team. After a period of talks, he comes aboard us on the specified date.
Ben’s management and expertise in the competitive gaming genre is vast, having dedicated the recent years producing and managing some of the most recognizable titles in the industry, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and more recently, Apex Legends.
